Despite a rough showing at the U-17 World Cup, some good news has followed the tournament. NYCFC academy product Joe Scally is set to transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach according to ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle. The report notes that the initial fee is for around $2 million, but bonuses could see it rise to up to $7 million.
Carlisle’s article also has a good breakdown of how the NYCFC academy is producing young talent and should continue to grow in the future.
Though Scally will be headed to Germany, it won’t be until he turns 18 on December 31, 2020. In the meantime, he’ll stay with NYCFC through next year and wait until 2021 to join Gladbach.
Scally is an attack-minded right back who showed his prowess for going forward when he sent a long cross to Gianluca Busio against Senegal in the World Cup. It would be the lone goal for the team in the tournament, but the first of many that the young American has in his future.
