United States Men’s National Team and Fortuna Sittard striker Andrija Novakovich scored his sixth goal of the Eredivisie season, (seventh in all competitions) in a 4-2 loss to AZ Alkmaar.
With Fortuna and Alkmaar tied 1-1, in first-half stoppage time, Novakovich fired a shot from the top of the eighteen. It took a sizable deflection off of an Alkmaar defender before beating goalkeeper Marco Bizot at the near post.
In the Eredivisie, #USMNT forward Andrija Novakovich with a goal for Fortuna Sittard - which leads AZ Alkmaar in the 50th minute. First pro goal I can remember from him scored from outside the box. Sittard has been struggling. This would be a huge result if it holds pic.twitter.com/pgPjV0lPKM

Ultimately, Novakovich’s 46th minute strike was not enough, as Alkmaar scored three unanswered second-half goals. With the victory, Alkmaar sits 4th in the 18 team Eredivisie.
As a result of the loss, Fortuna is 13th. It is just two points above a place in the relegation playoffs (the 18th place team is automatically relegated and the 17th, as well as 16th place teams take part in the relegation playoffs).
