Yanks Abroad: Four goals in Germany

Andrew Wooten continues his hot streak with Christian Pulisic & Joe Gyau scoring goals as well.

Another Yanks Aborad, another headline with Andrew Wooten. The Taylor Twellman “Just stop it!” exclamation comes to mind. But please don’t, Andrew! When it comes to strikers, I am preferable to the hot hand and there is no American that even comes close right now. It will be very hard for Gregg Berhalter to leave him off of his upcoming Gold Cup roster.

This piece may be late this week, but it is worth it!

Germany

Andrew Wooten
Six goals in the last four matches. Nine in the last eight. Ten in the last ten. It was another brace for him over the weekend as Sandhausen got the 3-2 win. He was both FotMob’s & WhoScored’s highest rated player. Wooten has put the team on his back to close out the season and keep them in the 2nd tier. With two matches remaining they are just above the red line, five points clear.

FotMob: 9.2 WhoScored: 7.6
94% passing; 2/3 shots on goal; 15/16 passing; 2/2 long balls; 6/7 duels; 1/1 dribbles; 1/1 tackles; dispossessed once; 2 recoveries

Christian Pulisic
Pulisic got the scoring started in the 6th minute of Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw at Werder Bremen with a beautiful run from the center circle. He won the most duels (15) and was the most fouled player (5) in the match. He also lost possession the most times (3). BvB are four points behind Bayern Munich with two matches remaining. Bayern would have to drop points in both matches for Dortmund to have a chance. It’s definitely a long shot, although Bayern have to play the 3rd & 4th place teams to secure it. Youth Update

FotMob: 8.6 WhoScored: 8.4
74% passing; 2 chances created; 3/6 shots on target; 2 big chances missed; 15/20 duels; 5/6 dribbles; 1/1 tackles

Joe Gyau
The 26-year-old scored in the 55th minute in a 2-0 Duisburg win over Holstein Kiel. However, he lost possession four times, the most in the match. VIDEO

FotMob: 7.1 WhoScored: 7.5
1 chance created; 76% passing; 1/1 shot on goal; 2/10 duels; 1/1 dribbles; 8 recoveries

Weston McKennie
The 20-year-old played 90 minutes as Schalke drew with Augsburg 0-0, an underwhelming performance against the 14th place team that secured their safety in the top tier. McKennie was WhoScored’s highest rated player.

FotMob: 7.3 WhoScored: 7.6
1 chance created; 91% passing; 1/1 shot on target; 4/6 long balls; 4/8 duels; 4 interceptions

Julian Green
Green played 90 minutes as Greuther Fürth were thrashed 4-0 in FC Cologne’s title clinching match. With two matches remaining, Fürth is not quite safe yet but it would take a miracle.

FotMob: 5.4 WhoScored: 5.3
88% passing; 1 shot off target; 2/10 duels; 0/2 dribbles; 1/1 tackles; dispossessed once

Jan George
It was one to forget for the 26-year-old as Jahn Regensburg fell 1-3 to Erzgebirge Aue (what a name). George picked up two yellow cards within three minutes of each other at the beginning of the 2nd half.

FotMob: 5.1 WhoScored: 5.3

Cameron Carter-Vickers
The 21-year-old finished the Championship season on Sunday with a 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers. He actually turned in the highest passing percentage in the league, although that stat can be misleading when it comes to centerbacks.

FotMob: 6.5 WhoScored: 6.5
1 chance created; 77% passing; 3/5 long balls; 3/7 duels; 1/1 dribbles; 1 interception

Antonee Robinson

Scotland

Tim Weah
Celtic secured the Scottish Premiership title with a 3-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. Weah got the start and played 73 minutes. Celtic are also playing for another trophy in the Cup Final on May 25th. Youth Update

Belgium

Ethan Horvath
The Club Brugge shot stopper was in goal for a 1-0 win over Gent. He has 11 clean sheets this season plus another three in UCL action. (Side Note: Last week I told you he had saved three PK’s in four matches. That is incorrect. Although this was after FotMob confirmed to me that one of their symbols meant a saved PK. But after seeing the symbol yet again this week, I looked closer to see it actually means clean sheets.)

Denmark

Jonathan Amon
He opened the scoring with a nice finish from a tight angle in a 2-1 Nordsjælland loss to Midtjylland last week. He then played 89 minutes in a 0-0 draw at Esbjerg on Tuesday. Youth Update

FotMob: 5.9 WhoScored: 7
