French Baguettes: The calm before the title defense

It’s early evening here in Paris, and fans of the United States Women’s National Team have been steadily arriving here in the City of Love and Reims in advance of tomorrow’s match against Thailand. The 2019 Women’s World Cup is in full swing, and talk of the matches and other soccer matches are always part of the conversation. With the USMNT’s disastrous defeat yesterday to Venezuela, fans are here rejoicing at the fact that they finally get to see the women do what they do best: dominate.

As fans have arrived, they’re starting to get to know each other, with the American Outlaws and other fans of the USWNT gathering at one hotel to greet each other and trade stories about where they’re from and the travel route they took to arrive in Paris. While most are jet-lagged from the long trip, they’re ready to go tonight as the focus shifts fully towards tomorrow’s match in Reims. They’ll party tonight and get excited for the match, and tomorrow will be a long day of anticipation and preparation to watch our USWNT play.
