It’s finally here. Last but certainly not least, the United States Women’s National Team begin their World Cup title defense against Thailand as the very last match in the first round of group matches.
The U.S. enter the tournament as co-favorites alongside hosts France. Jill Ellis’ side is ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA and have won their last six games. They couldn’t have asked for a much better opponent to begin the tournament with to get off on the right foot. Thailand sits at 2000-1 to win the cup, the longest odds in the entire field.
While nothing should be taken for granted, this is a great opportunity for the Americans to gain some confidence going into the tougher part of their group schedule.
The goal is to win their fourth World Cup. The journey begins right now. Let’s go.
