There’s no way around it, Sunday’s match against Venezuela was simply awful and it’s challenging to find any standout efforts of note. There were two players in the match who barely squeaked out a rating above a 5 and another two who scored above 4 in the community rankings.
Finishing first in this edition of the Man of the Match is damning with faint praise as none of the scores received would indicate a truly impactful performance. Having said that, the SSFC Community Man of the Match is newcomer Tyler Boyd who was appearing for the first time for the USMNT since filing a one-time switch and joining the US moving forward. Boyd is probably receiving some “new guy” benefit of the doubt but he did have a number of set piece opportunities and was credited with five key passes, as many as the rest of the team combined. However, the team was unable to convert any of the attempts into real danger. For his efforts Boyd received a 5.204 rating by the community. It’s difficult to take much away from a performance like we saw on Sunday but it has been presumed that Boyd will see a significant role in the upcoming Gold Cup.
The full SSFC rankings were as follows:
Zack Steffen - 2.474
Nick Lima - 3.916
