The United States takes on Guyana at St. Paul, Minnesota’s Allianz Field in its first match of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Gregg Berhalter’s team needs a strong start to the tournament, with a decisive multi-goal victory looking possible against a weakened debutante. The USMNT has been struggling to put together good results and will be without the services of superlative midfielder Tyler Adams. Young stars Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic and veteran midfielder Michael Bradley will be relied upon to carry this group into the knockout rounds. Expect newcomer Tyler Boyd to also make an impact in this match. According to US Soccer, this is the Gold Cup debut for seven players.
Despite the Gold Cup no longer leading to the now defunct Confederations Cup and the inception of the Nations League, it is still the championship of CONCACAF and should be considered an important competition. The USMNT won the 2017 edition of the tournament and can tie Mexico at seven with most all-time wins.
