Soccer: CONCACAF Gold Cup-El Salvador at Jamaica Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Group C of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup kicks off its third match day at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Three teams — Curaçao, Jamaica, and El Salvador — are playing for two spots in the quarterfinal, but Honduras has the opportunity to play spoiler. The competition is not featuring simultaneous matches on the last day of the group stage, which could have some consequences on the night’s second match.

Curaçao is attempting to reach its first Gold Cup quarterfinal, but needs three points or a draw paired with a big Honduran win to advance. Remko Bicentini’s side has the firepower, but attackers Gevaro Nepomuceno (Oldham Athletic) and Jafar Arias (Emmen) must step up. The Reggae Boyz looked unimpressive in a scoreless draw with El Salvador, which indicates Theodore Whitmore’s side might fall short of its goal of winning the Gold Cup.

El Salvador takes on an already eliminated Honduras side, but will know the required result prior to kick-off. It’s possible La Selecta will merely need a draw or no points at all, but the lineup will be set before the previous match finishes. Bangkok United’s Nelson Bonilla continues to be his country’s main source of scoring, which will likely remain the case through this tournament and upcoming World Cup qualifying.
