The great city of Philadelphia will host the second day of Gold Cup quarterfinal action with the Reggae Boyz taking on Los Canaleros and the Stars and Stripes facing a team who I’m sure has a nickname.
Panama comes into the match getting second in Group D having lost to the USA on a Jozy Altidore overhead volleycyclekick that was the goal of the tournament so far. They should be well rested having sat most of their first team against the Americans. Jamaica got to this point topping Group C in less than convincing fashion. After beating Honduras 3-2, they tied both El Salvador and Curacao. This should be a fairly even and back and forth match with each team having a lot to prove in the tournament.
Curacao is probably the most surprising side to advance in the whole tournament. Second place in Group C was expected to go to either Honduras or perhaps El Salvador, but neither of the Central American sides was surpass the efforts of Gevaro Nepomuceno and the Caribbean nation advanced. Meanwhile the USA only managed to score 11 goals in the group stage while letting zero in so the tournament has been a pretty huge success so far. This really shouldn’t be a problem for the Stars and Stripes, but the team did need to settle into all three of its previous matches before finding a real breakthrough.
