EFL Championship side Wigan Athletic has announced the signing of 21-year-old United States men’s national team left back Antonee Robinson, on a three-year deal from Everton. The transfer fee was undisclosed.
The Everton academy product, who joined the club at 11, failed to make a single appearance for the club’s senior team. He spent the 2017-2018 season on loan with Bolton in the Championship before making a loan move to Wigan for the 2018-2019 season.
He made 26 appearances and helped the club to avoid relegation (Wigan finished 18th in the 24 team league). However, Wigan struggled defensively conceding 64 goals in 46 games.
Robinson has earned 7 USMNT caps but failed to make Gregg Berhalter’s 2019 Gold Cup squad. Robinson will be one of several USMNT players in the Championship including Duane Holmes, Andrija Novakovich, Tim Ream, Eric Lichaj, and Luca de la Torre.
