According to Jonathan Low of Get Reading, United States men’s national team centerback Matt Miazga will join EFL Championship side Reading on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of the 2018-2019 season on loan with Ligue 1 side Nantes but had his loan terminated. He made eight consecutive starts during his first nine games for the club, but coach Miguel Cardoso was fired due to poor results.

Vahid Halilhodzic, Cardoso’s replacement, saw little use for Miazga and ultimately and demoted him to the reserves. Miazga then joined Reading during the January transfer window.

He made 18 appearances (all starts) for the English side, finished 20th and narrowly avoided relegation.

Since Miazga joined Chelsea from the New York Red Bulls, in January 2016, he has only made two Premier League appearances for the team. He has been loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem, Nantes, and Reading.

This summer, Miazga made three appearances as the USMNT finished second at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Is this a good move for Miazga?
