Weston McKennie is adding to his trophy case. The 22-year-old United States international was announced as the 2020 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year today. He becomes the 3rd-youngest winner of the award after Christian Pulisic and Landon Donovan.
He has been a finalist for the award the previous 3 years, but excelled this year in the voting, earning 44% of all votes. Christian Pulisic (27%) was second, followed by Sergiño Dest (14%).
McKennie started out 2020 by doing all he could to keep Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga before earning a loan move to Juventus over the summer. There, he’s been a regular in the starting XI helping the Bianconeri into the Champions League knockout stage. He also appeared in 2 of the 4 matches for the United States Men’s National Team this season, earning Man of the Match honors against Wales and helping the USMNT in a 6-2 beatdown of Panama in November.
