It’s been quite the weekend for Americans in the Bundesliga and the early Saturday matches haven’t even hit the half-hour mark. Both Josh Sargent and Weston McKennie have found the back of the net for their respective teams, both of whom have been struggling for points.
It was Sargent who got the train rolling just three minutes into Werder Bremen’s match against Hertha Berlin. The American striker scored this lovely left-footed strike from the top of the box:
WHAT A HIT JOSH SARGENT!

The American put @werderbremen_en ahead early at Hertha with his first @Bundesliga_EN goal in almost four months. pic.twitter.com/5LwxcUWYvO
This is Sargent’s first goal since October after struggling for form and playing time for a pretty bad Bremen side. It was a much-needed goal for him and the club as they look to survive relegation.
Weston McKennie added to the fun soon after, scoring a brilliant solo goal in Schalke’s match against Hoffenheim. After collecting a ball on the right side, he maneuvered his way into the box and scored a great goal with his left foot:
Wonderful work from @WMckennie for his second @Bundesliga_EN goal!

This is his second career Bundesliga goal and this first this season. After missing a considerable amount of time due to injury, it’s great to see the midfielder back in action and succeeding.
Barring injury, both should feature heavily in the USMNT’s upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Wales later this month.
