Schalke’s Weston McKennie has a clear plan of how he’d like to see his career path materialize. While happy in Gelsenkirchen for now, the USMNT star admits that he envisions himself in the Premier League sometime in the future.

The 21-year-old revealed his aspirations to Goal.com, adding that it’s his dream to one day play in England’s top division.

“For me, the next goal is England. It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League,” the 19-time capped US international said in an exclusive interview with Goal and DAZN.

“I want to join a club that fights for a place in Europe – the Champions League or the Europa League. For now, I’m happy at Schalke because I get to play.”

McKennie was in the midst of a fruitful third full season in the Bundesliga before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. The midfielder notched his third career goal for Schalke, a fantastic individual effort against Hoffenheim, just days before play came to a halt.

Rumors have emerged in the past linking McKennie to various clubs, even a speculative link to powerhouse Liverpool. Time is on his side for a career move, it’s just a matter of picking the right situation.

What do you think about McKennie’s desire to play in England? Which club do you think fits him best?
