It’s Video Games week at SB Nation, where we celebrate how sports and video games have been a terrific match all these years. In the soccer world, there have been a ton of video games over the years. Fans have used video games to learn more about their favorite teams, study their opponents, play to collect digital player cards or to create their own player or team and take them all the way towards superstardom.
For soccer, there are three main franchises that have gained a lot of traction: FIFA (EA Sports), Pro Evolution Soccer (Konami), and Football Manager (Sports Interactive/Sega). FIFA (Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch) is the behemoth of the franchises. It’s been around the longest and has the biggest following among video gamers. Several soccer leagues and competitions around the world, from MLS to Champions League, base their eSports leagues around the FIFA franchise. Pro Evolution Soccer (Xbox, PS4, Switch) is the main competitor to the FIFA series, where players can play as their favorite teams and players. Finally, Football Manager (Switch, PC) allows for teams to become the manager and lead teams to silverware through the transfer market, youth development, formations, and tactics.
Fans of each video game really enjoy those games. Brand loyalty is a thing for many, while some switch between franchises based on gameplay and the type of video game they may be looking for. But, which franchise is the best? That’s this week’s Community Corner question.
Vote in the poll, then hit the comments and let us know which one is the franchise that you think is the best. Or, is there another soccer video game that you hold as the champion of all the video games. For added discussion, tell us which year’s installment of that franchise that you think was the best ever.
