USMNT weekend “viewing” guide: there’s nothing to it

No really, there’s hardly anything there

Look, there’s hardly a thing on this weekend with all the leagues but Liga MX taking a short break before kicking off their 2020-21 campaigns (or in the case of MLS the resumption of the 2020 “season”). The issue is exacerbated by Christian Pulisic’s hamstring injury last weekend forcing him to miss being eliminated alongside his Chelsea teammates in the second leg of their Champions League matchup with Bayern Munich, which they enter down 3-0. However, the world might stop spinning without a weekend thread so here are a couple options to keep an eye on this Weekend.

Friday

Next please.

Saturday

Ajax v RKC Waalwijk - 12:45p on ESPN+

Sergino Dest is still at Ajax and the club plays a friendly Saturday on against RKC Waalwijk who had a whopping 15 points through 26 matches and were looking like a sure bet to be relegated but were actually saved by the cancellation of the season. It’s hard to say who will be used in the warm-up match but if you paid the $5 to get ESPN+ and watch Pulisic pull his hammy last weekend it’s a game that is on.

Other Notes:

  • Konrad de la Fuente has been included in the match day squad for Barcelona’s Champions League matchup with Napoli which will air at 3p on CBS Sports Network. Barcelona enter the match tied 1-1 on aggregate but have been forced to call in nine youth squad players due to a combination of injuries and suspensions. It seems unlikely Konrad will see his first minutes but is something to keep half an eye on.

Sunday

Pumas UNAM v Juarez - 1p on ESPN Deportes

Sebastian Saucedo and Pumas UNAM face Juarez Saturday afternoon. Saucedo started and went 60’ on Monday for Pumas in their 2-1 win over Atlas. Saucedo picked up a yellow card in the first half before being subbed midway through the second. Juarez are coming off a 1-0 win over Necaxa.

Atletico San Luis v Atlas - 8p on TUDN

Ventura Alvarado has recently joined Atletico San Luis who are looking for their first win of the young season when they meet Atlas who have lost their first two matches. Alvarado has yet to suit up for Atletico who gave up four goals in their first two games.

With all that said, hit the comments section below and tell us what you’re seeing this weekend.
