A very pleasant surprise over the weekend was 19-year-old Matthew Hoppe scoring a hat trick to lift Schalke to a 4-0 win, ending a 30-match winless streak. Yes, thirty matches. Two of the goals were absolutely top class finishes and the youngster has officially made a name for himself on the world’s stage.
Seriously though, THAT is Hoppe’s first top flight goal? He looks like he’s been bulging Bundesliga nets for years. And it’s like he knew this was coming:
Don't count me out!

This is a feat only two other Americans have ever accomplished. (Remember when Pulisic got a hat trick about six years ago in 2019?)

Alright one more embed for the kid. Here is after the match, clearly not used to this kind of thing:
He wasn’t the only Yank to record a first goal as a pro. He wasn’t even the only Matthew to do so! Over in England’s FA Cup, we also got to see Matthew Olosunde get on the scoresheet as his Rotherham United side fell 2-1 at the hands of Everton. The 22-year-old New Jersey native was FotMob’s highest rated player in the match.
Julian Green continued a great Bundesliga 2 campaign with another assist from a corner kick. But it was a tough 3-2 loss for Greuther Fürth as a win would have seen them level on points at the top of the table with Hamburger SV.

The 25 year old has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga 2. Could definitely be a useful player for a Bundesliga team.pic.twitter.com/oQOJXGeWES

In the Greek Super League, Gboly Ariyibi recorded his first assist of the season. The 25-year-old winger also has two goals in his 14 appearances this season.

We also had another assist in Argentina from Independiente’s Alan Sonora, although he didn’t have to do too much. But the goal is worth a watch:

Yunus Munsah only came on for stoppage time in Valencia’s 1-0 win, but he went full beast mode. If only his teammate could have finished off this incredible run.

Manchester City’s Zack Steffen has started the last three matches in place of Ederson, who tested postive for COVID-19. On Wednesday, he shutout Manchester United in EFL Cup action. Then he recorded another shutout on Sunday in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Birmingham City. The 25-year-old has Pep Guardiola believing he “can fight for No. 1”.
In other good news, Cameron Carter-Vickers finally made his debut for Bournemouth in a 4-1 win. It was his first time on the pitch since a friendly with Tottenham all the way back in September.
Weston McKennie got the start for Juventus on Sunday, but left injured after 19 minutes.

According to @SkySport: McKennie felt a twinge when he did that back-heel flick, asked to come off just in case. Paulo Dybala slightly sprain to the knee and Federico Chiesa will have a fitness test at half-time. #JFC
