American Sergiño Dest notched his first and second La Liga goals as FC Barcelona downed Real Sociedad 4-0.
Longtime fans and supporters of the the U.S. Men’s National Team can only smile as the first goal featured the perfect through ball from Lionel Messi.

An American scored a club goal assisted by Lionel Messi. Give me a second to wipe the tears from my keyboard.
While US fans wistfully pondered how we’ve gone from playing catchup to watching our countrymen start for the world’s best club teams... Dest scored again.

What’s the perfect way to honor Dest’s stated desire to play like Jordi Alba? Linking up with him for a goal.
Dest’s offensive outburst can be partly attributed to Barcelona’s recent shift to a three man backline with Dest and Jordi Alba playing the role of wingbacks. In February ESPN wrote at length about how the American is elite going forward from the backline but needs to improve defensively.
Barcelona’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation is helping them possess the ball better and use Dest and Alba to push up the wings. In today’s first half Dest was the furthest forward Barca play on average:

These two goals make Dest the only American with a La Liga brace and the all time leader in star spangled La Liga goals. What a way to carb up.
