The United States Women’s National Team has a guaranteed chance to play for a medal in the 2020 Olympics. To get their shot at gold, they have to get past a familiar foe in the semifinals: Canada. Canada, who arrived at the semifinals by beating Brazil on penalties, wants to always bring their best game against the USWNT to show that they should be considered the best team in North America.
The USWNT got to the quarters after a tough match against the Netherlands, eventually beating them on penalties thanks to the heroics of Lynn Williams during the first half and Alyssa Naeher in regulation and penalty kicks. Naeher saved 3 total penalties to win the match for the USWNT, and now they have their chance to push for the gold medal. Will the USWNT beat their North American rivals and set their sights on gold? Or, will Canada force the USWNT to think bronze?
