The United States men’s national team head down to San Pedro Sula tonight to take on Honduras in a crucial World Cup qualifier. After being held to back-to-back draws to open the round, Gregg Berhalter’s side really need to start putting points on the board. It’ll be a tough ask to go away from home in Concacaf, especially with the host of absences the team is currently suffering, and get full points.
The U.S. will be without Gio Reyna and Sergino Dest who have left the team due to injuries suffered in the previous two matches. They’ll also be missing Weston McKennie who was sent home due to disciplinary reasons and replaced on the roster by Jackson Yueill.
Creating chances and scoring goals has clearly been the USMNT’s biggest issue during this window with just one goal in the first two matches. What can Berhalter do to get the ideas and attack flowing better? Could we see a shift in formation or possibly some new faces inserted into the lineup?
Going down to Honduras is always a difficult proposition, but the U.S. has history of pulling out some great results down there. If they can do it again it would go a long ways towards restoring some morale and leave a good taste in everyone’s mouths heading into October’s window.
