One win, two win, three win, four. Five win, six win, make the cup ours.
The United States has five Gold Cup wins under their belt. Today they go in search of their sixth and final win. A win that will deliver them the Gold Cup for the fifth time in their history.
Making matters more difficult for the U.S. will be the absence of Jurgen Klinsmann, but the Americans have overcome a suspended manager against Panama in the Gold Cup final before. They also have history in Chicago, site of their last Gold Cup title.
While Klinsmann will not be on the bench, he did get to pick his starting lineup and he is going to stick with Clarence Goodson over Omar Gonzalez in central defense. Stuart Holden also gets the start, pairing Kyle Beckerman in the double pivot, while Jose Francisco Torres has been dropped in favor of Alejandro Bedoya and Joe Corona on the wings.
United States: Nick Rimando; Michael Parkhurst, Clarence Goodson, Matt Besler, DaMarcus Beasley; Kyle Beckerman, Stuart Holden; Alejandro Bedoya, Landon Donovan, Joe Corona; Eddie Johnson.
Panama: Jaime Penedo; Leonel Parris, Roman Torres, Roberto Chen, Carlos Rodriguez; Alberto Quintero, Gabriel Gomez, Anibal Godoy, Marcos Sanchez; Blas Perez, Gabriel Torres.
The match kicks off at 4 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on FOX. Gus Johnson will have the call, and the match will also be available in Spanish on Univision.
