The United States got three points on Tuesday to kick off their Gold Cup campaign. It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but the Gold Cup group stage rarely is. Now they're set to take on the weakest team in Group A, Haiti, and if they win then they'll book a spot in the knockout stages.
Jurgen Klinsmann has made seven changes to his lineup for the opener, with the core of Brad Guzan, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore the only holdover. Omar Gonzalez and Tim Ream will be in the center of the defense and Aron Johannsson slides in up top, while Mix Diskerud will play alongside Bradley in the center of the midfield.
It appears as if the team will play in a 4-3-1-2, which means Graham Zusi will join Mix and Bradley in the midfield. That puts Dempsey in front of them and behind two strikers so it will be interesting to see how the team functions through the middle, as well as whether Greg Garza and Brad Evans can both defend and provide width in the attack.
United States: Guzan, Evans, Gonzalez, Ream, Garza, Zusi, Bradley, Diskerud, Dempsey, Johannsson, Altidore
The match kicks off at 8:30 p.m. ET and will be live on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas.
