Report: Darlington Nagbe, others to be called in to rescue Bruce Arena’s Gold Cup experiment

When in trouble, call on your best.

This 2017 Gold Cup hasn’t been great. In all honesty, it’s been an abysmal competition overall and the United States hasn’t been any different. With most of the big countries calling in their “B-team” for this tournament, it’s been less than eventful through the group stage so far. In an effort to try and go all the way and collect a trophy, Bruce Arena is bringing out the ace up his sleeve. That’s right. Commissioner Arena has shined the spotlight and Darlington Nagbe is on his way to save the day.

Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep reports that the technical wizard is one of five USMNT regulars to have already joined up with the team ahead of their final group match today against Nicaragua. Ives states that Nagbe, Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey are the five that have been called on in anticipation of making roster changes ahead of the knockout stage.

It’s not surprising at all to see these MLS-based stars called in to help the U.S. improve. We’d all like to see the Christian Pulisic-Darlington Nagbe tandem reunited, but letting the teenage sensation go to Dortmund and have a full preseason is undoubtedly more beneficial to him than playing in this useless tournament.

What do you think of the additions? Who will be sent home? Let us know in the comments.
