Soccer: 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup-USA at El Salvador Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

After four warm-up games for the United States, their CONCACAF Gold Cup truly begins in the semifinals and the country ranked ahead of them according to FIFA. Costa Rica are enjoying a sort of golden generation at the moment and are neck and neck alongside the U.S. vying for the No. 2 spot behind Mexico in the region.

Their Gold Cup has been a carbon copy for the USA’s. Winning their group stringing along less than convincing performances to do so. They eked out a win over Panama thanks to a late own goal to get to the semis.

Meanwhile, the U.S. have sputtered along as well with a rotational lineup every step of the way. If they are to make it to Wednesday’s final, they’ll need to find some sort of motivation. Perhaps being literally bitten and pinched by El Salvador is just the wake up call they needed.

Despite the two teams being at a similar level, Los Ticos have never beaten the U.S. at the Gold Cup (6-0-1). With each side not exactly playing at their best, anything is possible in this final four match-up. It should be an interesting one.
