Clint Dempsey ties Landon Donovan for USMNT all-time goals record

With a fantastic free kick.

Landon Donovan is no longer the lone all-time leading goalscorer for the United States men’s national team. Clint Dempsey has tied the record on Saturday night with a fantastic free kick against Costa Rica in the semifinal of the CONCACAF Gold Cup:

After starting the match on the bench, Dempsey came on after the 65th minute and set-up Jozy Altidore for the first goal of the match. He then took matters into his own hands by scoring his 57th career international goal and tying the record.

It’s been a rough year for the Texan as he’s seen his role diminished a bit with both the national team and at the club level at times but at 34 years of age he still has that something special in his locker. How sweet it has to be for him to tie the record in his home state. One more goal and the USA will have a new goal king.
