Well, we made it. It wasn’t the prettiest or the cleanest of paths, but the United States have clawed their way to the final of another Gold Cup. After being eliminated in 2015 by Jamaica in the semifinals, they meet the Reggae Boyz once again, but this time for all the marbles.

Despite missing out on the CONCACAF Hexagonal this World Cup qualifying cycle, Jamaica has shined in this tournament. Their run so far culminated with a fantastic left-footed free kick off the boot of the New York Red Bulls’ Kemar Lawrence. His 88th minute winner stunned Mexico, sending them out of the competition.

Meanwhile, the U.S. needed a heroic Clint Dempsey substitute performance to knock out Costa Rica and make it to tonight’s final. The biggest storyline heading into the match has to be Dempsey’s chase for the USMNT’s all-time goals record. After tying Landon Donovan with his free kick against Los Ticos, he needs one more to take sole possession. Can he do it on the way to a trophy?

The Americans are a little less than 2/1 favorites to lift the cup in this one, according to Goal.com. That seems a bit high considering how well Jamaica have played as a team and how much the U.S. have struggled to get this far. However, home field should be on their side and we can expect a fun match.
