The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup opens this evening in California with Group A taking the field. In the first match, Canada is a team that is loading up with young talent and is hoping to take the first step towards being viewed as one of the upper echelon teams in the region. To get off on the right foot, they’ll play a Martinique squad that has qualified for its second straight Gold Cup and stormed into League A through CONCACAF Nations League qualifying. Who will get off to the right start in the Gold Cup debut match?
Later, the tournament favorites take center stage when they play Cuba. Mexico may be missing several of its main stars, but it’s still poised to dominate against a Cuba team that may feel it’s just happy to be there, but are looking to somehow make an impact and spoil the Mexican party. Will Mexico dominate as expected? Or will Cuba surprise and steal some points?
