Some changes are coming to the United States Men’s National Team roster. This evening, defender Walker Zimmerman was ruled out of the rest of the 2021 Gold Cup with a hamstring strain. USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has called in defender Henry Kesslery from the New England Revolution and San Jose Earthquakes forward Cade Cowell to training camp in Dallas.
Zimmerman was subbed off early during the first half of the USMNT’s 1-0 win over Canada when he picked up that injury. Concacaf recently announced that teams could bring in in new players after the group stage as medical replacements to their 23-man roster. They can replace injured players up to 24 hours prior to the quarterfinal. U.S. Soccer confirmed that no official roster change had yet been submitted to Concacaf.
The USMNT will face Jamaica in the quarterfinals at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, July 25th. Both Kessler and Cowell were a part of the U-23 roster for January Camp, with Henry Kessler serving on the U-23 roster for Olympic qualifying in March.
➤ At this point, no official requests for roster changes have been submitted to Concacaf.
