Landon Donovan shocked the American soccer world in September of last year when he announced he was coming out of retirement to finish the season with the LA Galaxy. After offseason rumors of a move elsewhere in MLS, Donovan has officially ended the speculation by saying he’s done with his playing career.
“Yeah, I’m done,” Donovan told Yahoo! Sports. “I’m done. No more playing for me.”
“I have not [gone public]. But that is definitely the case.”
Rumors of a move to Real Salt Lake popped up in January, but nothing ever materialized from them. These days, Landon is looking to eventually join the ranks of MLS owners. He has joined a group looking to bring MLS to San Diego and appears to be very focused on the endeavor.
He’s also returned to his side gig of commentating. He’ll join John Strong and Stuart Holden on tonight’s FS1 broadcast of USMNT vs. Honduras. Looks like we’ve seen the last of Landon Donovan’s competitive playing days...maybe.
