The MLS is Back tournament has completed its first week, and despite many postponed matches, two teams (FC Dallas and Nashville SC) were withdrawn due to a large number of coronavirus cases, and some rusty play from some of the teams.
However, this tournament has highlighted some of the plainness of the jerseys that MLS teams have. There are tons of plain white jerseys, black jerseys, jerseys where the names and numbers are blurry on TV, and in the case of New York City FC, a jersey that blends into the “blue screen” that MLS is using to bring in digital ads on all its broadcasts.
Some teams have a great color scheme or jersey identity nailed down: D.C. United with its black and red, the Seattle Sounders’ rave green and electric blue, the Portland Timbers countering with their forest green, the Montreal Impact with their blue and black stripes, and Sporting Kansas City with its light blue and navy blue combination. However, there are some teams that really haven’t nailed it down yet, notably Inter Miami CF (where is the pink?!) and every team that’s not utilizing their secondary color for their jerseys.
This week’s Community Corner asks you: which MLS team’s jersey identity would you remake? Would it be just one jersey or both? Would it be a complete overhaul of the colors or would you keep the colors and just refocus the identity on a secondary or tertiary color? With so many color combinations not readily being used, which one would you bring to a team in MLS? Hit the comments and let us know which team and what you would change about their jersey identity.
