The United States Men’s National Team is expected to announce its roster Tuesday for its November 14th friendly against Portugal, and people are ready to see if they will call in some fresh blood to take on the defending European champions. It will be great for some of the young American talent to test their mettle against one of the best players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo, in a tough road match...

What? Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t on the roster? That’s gotta be a mistake, right? I mean, the Real Madrid star never misses a match for his country. He’s his nation’s captain, their best player, the one that carries the team! And, when faced with the prospect of playing Saudi Arabia and a young USMNT squad full of players looking to make their mark, CR7 is just going to take a break?
It’s clear, ladies and gentlemen...Cristiano Ronaldo is SCARED! Scared, scared, scared of a USMNT team that has something to prove.
He doesn’t want these problems. He probably realized that there was a possibility that he would be facing off against players like Josh Sargent, Tyler Adams, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Christian Pulisic, Timothy Weah, Weston McKennie, Shaq Moore, or Lynden Gooch and was like “I can’t hang with those guys.” He’s probably having nightmares of DeAndre Yedlin and John Brooks coming back to exact some revenge for that 2014 World Cup draw. He knows for a fact that if Bill Hamid is in goal, he’s not doing any celebrating in the corner because he not putting a ball past Hamid into the net. So, because of just the mere possibility he could face a USMNT squad that’s young and has no fear, he’s conveniently “taking a break.”
Not only is Ronaldo too scared to both showing up in Leiria on November 14th, he told most of his boys not to come either. João Moutinho, William Carvalho, Nani, Bruno Alves, Renato Sanches, and Ricardo Quaresma saw that their captain was too scared to show up and decided they weren’t about to face the USMNT alone. I will give credit to Pepe, though...he ain’t scared. He is on Portugal’s roster, as is André Silva, Eder, Gonçalo Guedes and Bernardo Silva. Those guys deserve our ultimate respect for never backing down from tough competition, and it will be fun to watch our youth go at them. But, attitude reflects leadership, and when the USMNT decided to come to town, the Portuguese captain realized that he was not ready for primetime and decided to duck us. Ronaldo wasn’t ready.
So, when you tune in to watch the USMNT take on Portugal (November 14th, 2:45pm ET, FS1 & UniMas), you’re not going to see #7 in red on your TV. And while the story will be that the defending European champions will be resting some of their key players, including Ronaldo, and “evaluating talent” as they start to prepare for the World Cup, we all know the real story. And, whenever they talk about some of the players that aren’t on this roster and get to Cristiano Ronaldo, we can all scream out loud at the TV one simple thought: “You scared!”
