Junior Flores has made a somewhat significant breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund. He's starting for their U-19 in the UEFA Youth League, which is essentially the U-19 Champions League.
Flores signed with Dortmund after starring for the U.S. U-17s and made the move to Germany after his 18th birthday. That was in March, and now he is looking to make his way at one of Europe's bigger clubs.
Dortmund lost their first Youth League match, 2-0, to Arsenal. Flores did not play in that match and need a result against Anderlecht today if they want to be in a decent position to get out of the group.
Getting a start in an important match means a lot to Flores, who has been trying to find his feet at Dortmund. They have an excellent academy and the competition among the youth players is tough, but he clearly has made some sort of impression there. The club are high on him, giving him a four-year contract, and now he will get his first major chance to take a big step there. As one of the United States' best young players, that's huge.
