Geoff Cameron reportedly wanted out of Stoke City this summer because he wanted to play in the center. The American established himself with the Potters as a right back, but he was done with it. Be it as a centerback or a holding midfielder, he wanted to be in the middle.
Cameron didn't get the move he wanted, but he is now getting that chance to play in the middle. After a hernia slowed him at the beginning of the season, Cameron is fit again and played as a holding midfielder over the weekend. Now he's ready to make that a regular thing.
While he said that he'll play right back in a pinch, it's clear where he and the team see his future now. Cameron played very well on Sunday and made his case for more chances in the midfield.
The Potters are right in the middle of the table at 10th, but with the holiday fixture congestion not far off and the FA Cup set to kick in after, they are going to need more squad depth. That means Cameron will have to get chances, although hopefully he gets some more before December too.
