Rubio Rubin injured in FC Utrecht preseason match

Rubio Rubin is injured, but it doesn't look too bad.

Rubio Rubin is one of the United States' best prospects so him getting a crack with the FC Utrecht first team this preseason is a big deal. It was his chance to earn playing time in the Eredivisie season. But then it looked like it was all going to come crashing down in a matter of minutes.

Six minutes after coming into a preseason match against Dundee United, Rubio was hit with a hard challenge and had to come off the pitch. Reports from the ground were that it was serious and that he didn't even try to play on appeared to be confirmation of that. But it may not be as bad as it could have been.

Today, Rubin tweeted out a picture of him at the hospital getting ready for surgery and if the picture is any indication, he hurt his nose. That obviously isn't good, but it beats a knee or ankle injury.

At this point, we're still guessing on what he hurt and the extent. We have no idea what the timeline for his recovery is either, but if it is a nose injury, it's good news. Those can be fixed with pretty minor surgery and don't require a long layoff so fingers crossed for the 18-year-old.
