Brek Shea reportedly going on loan to Birmingham City

Andrew Caballero-Reynolds

Brek Shea may have finally found a home, albeit a temporary one. According to Alexi Lalas, he is on his way to Birmingham City.

Birmingham have had trouble ever since being relegated to the Championship in 2011. Last season, they finished 21st in the league and are off to a slow start to this campaign, with just one win from five matches. They have not gotten much from the left side, with Lee Novak letting less than rave reviews in the early going and now he's hurt. While Novak is hardly atrocious, it is not as if he has a lock on the left wing position. Shea, if he plays well, could take over the spot.

For Shea, any move to a club where he will get the chance to play is a good one. Stoke City have absolutely no interest in using him and he has gone a year and a half without any sustained, consistent play.

When he was came off the bench for the United States against the Czech Republic, it was clear just how far Shea has fallen. He was nothing short of abysmal and, realistically, has no place anywhere near the national team in current form. He desperately needs to play, and Birmingham may provide him that opportunity.
