Everton started their Europa League campaign with a 4-1 win over Wolfsburg, but it wasn't the thrashing that the scoreline would indicate. The Toffees were the better team on the day, but they could have allowed three, or even four goals if not for Tim Howard.
The American goalkeeper was sensational, making 12 saves on the day, including this beauty.
There is some debate as to how Howard really is. Some want to put him among the best goalkeepers in the world, other would like him to be more consistent, but there is no doubt that on his day, he is simply marvelous. And Thursday was his day.
The Europa League is a pretty big deal for Everton. Not only is it their first time in European competition for four years, but now the winner gets a spot in the Champions League. These Thursdays bring a spotlight at Goodison Park, and Howard shined bright.
