Julian Green promoted to Bayern Munich's reserves

Bayern Munich have promoted Julian Green to the club's reserve team

Johannes Simon

You may have heard about Julian Green by now. The German-American has been apart of Bayern Munich's academy and youth teams in recent years and made a splash over the weekend with a standout performance in two friendlies for Bayern. What kind of standout performance, you ask? The young winger scored three goals in each game, but even better news emerged on Monday. He has been promoted to Bayern's reserve team for the upcoming season

In his first two matches in charge of Bayern, Pep Guardiola fielded a separate lineup for all four halves, and Green made his presence known throughout the matches. I won't sit here and act like I was able to watch the two games. However, why don't I just provide comments from one of Bavarian Football Works' better commenters Grudnik.

From the first friendly:

Julian Green looked very good as well. The 18-year old German-American not only scored three goals (of which one was a cheeky little lob over the keeper), but he was hustling, and generating some nice chances for his teammates with his hard work as well. I've read a lot about him, but this is the first time I saw him play, and he looked very promising. Good skill, good speed, and, like I mentioned, showed some hustle.

From the second friendly:

You have to consider the competition, but he's got some skill, some speed and some hustle.

He is a little small, though, so I don't know whether striker would be his ideal position. He could definitely play on the wing.

So, there you have it from someone that actually watched the two games against amateur teams. Green will play in his first real match against professional players sometime this fall for Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern (4th Division), and we'll begin to get a real look at his potential.
