The United States and Germany drew 1-1 over the weekend, setting up tonight as the rubber match between the world's top two ranked teams. To steal a line from MLB and hype up a still meaningless match, "THIS TIME IT COUNTS!"
There still is no word on the permanent replacement for Pia Sundhage, but the last time Sunil Gulati spoke about the search he targeted the end of October or beginning of November as his target date to make a hire so it is creeping up.
In the mean time, like tonight again, the U.S. will be led by interim manager Jill Ellis. She's made a few changes to the team from the weekend Amy LePeilbet and Beck Sauerbrunn come into the team, as does Heather O'Reilly, which flips Megan Rapinoe from the right to the left. Carli Lloyd is the final new player in the team, replacing Lauren Cheney.
Here we go, it's time for the big one! Well, it's the relatively big match for a friendly years away from a major tournament. Fine, it;'s just cool and, oh yeah, another big crowd is on hand!
United states (4-4-2): Solo; LePeilbet, Sauerbrunn, Rampone, O'Hara; O'Reilly, Lloyd, Boxx, Rapinoe; Morgan, Wambach.
