Will Packwood is on the move yet again. Birmingham City are sending the American defender to League One side Colchester United on loan, a year after Packwood spent time on loan with Bristol Rovers in League Two.
Birmingham are only sending Packwood on loan until January 1, so it is a short loan. They also maintain the right to recall him whenever they would like after 28 days so if they need centerback help during the holidays when the fixtures pile up, they can do so.
Packwood has struggled for playing time this season, managing just one appearance so far. That was a mere 29-minute showing off of the bench on September 30, so he desperately needs to get matches in, even if that means leaving Birmingham.
Colchester could certainly use Packwood. They're 21st in League One and have only one one of their last five matches. Packwood has proven to be extremely talented and was getting chances with the Birmingham first team years ago, but he has been repeatedly sidetracked by injuries. Birmingham are still high on his talent (and he's still a promising prospect for the U.S.), but he needs to play regularly -- and that means both staying healthy and getting in form.
