Jozy Altidore's agent Lyle Yorks is going to Sunderland to discuss his client's future, according to ESPNFC. Altidore has struggled for playing time with the Black Cats and said that if he doesn't start playing more then he will have to leave the club in January. Now, rumors are starting to fly as other clubs begin to express interest.
"I'll be in Sunderland next week to discuss where things are [with Altidore]," Yorks said.
"There's a lot of interest in Jozy. I've been approached by many clubs and we're going to evaluate everything in the next two months."
One of the clubs interested in Altidore is Lille. Yorks told ESPNFC that Lille actually tried to buy him last season, along with another Ligue 1 team.
Lille would be an excellent fit for Altidore because they are desperate for a striker and are still a good club in a relatively big league. Several reports have linked him there and with Yorks' confirmation of prior interest, there is reason to believe those reports are legitimate.
That another French club is interested is encouraging. One would assume that several Eredivisie clubs would be interested in signing him after how well he played at AZ, too, while a Bundesliga club or two could also take a look.
It's looking more and more like Altidore's time at Sunderland is over. It's not really anyone's fault, except maybe Altidore's for not playing better, but it's not as if he didn't try. Both the club and player need a break and with Yorks going to speak with Sunderland, they may be closer to that.
