Fabian Johnson out several weeks with calf injury

Fabian Johnson lasted all of one week into the Bundesliga season before picking up an injury. The Borussia Monchengladbach man was diagnosed with a tear in his right calf and will be out for at least several weeks, according to Kicker. It's still unclear exactly when he will be back, but it won't be soon.

The injury comes at a rough time for Johnson. He was late to Gladbach preseason after spending July with the U.S. at the Gold Cup and still managed to play well enough to earn a spot in the starting XI for the club's first match of the season last weekend. And while the Foals were torn apart by Borussia Dortmund, Johnson wasn't too bad. All things considered, it was a bright start for the American, but now he's going to be on the sidelines for a while.

Johnson's injury will almost certainly keep him out of the United States' September friendlies against Peru and Brazil, but unless it's significantly worse than expected, he should be back and in form for the Americans' Confederations Cup playoff against Mexico in October.
