According to a local Eindhoven sports outlet, PSV currently has an American trialing with them. It’s none other that Toronto FC academy product and U.S. U-17 attack Ayo Akinola.
The 17-year-old is not only on trial at the famous Eredivisie club but appears to be impressing with his chance. He’s already found himself on the scoresheet in a friendly for the club’s U-19 team. He found the net in a 5-0 win over Racing Genk on Tuesday.
Thanks to FIFA rules, Akinola is unable to sign anywhere in Europe without a European passport until his 18th birthday. However, that day is soon approaching as he’ll hit the magic number in late January.
So, could another American be making the leap to Europe? If so, PSV would be a fantastic destination for the pacy winger to begin his professional career. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out and if he’s offered a contract.
