Yanks Abroad: Assists galore, Morales scores

A lot of great performances by U.S. internationals this weekend.

The United States internationals playing abroad had a good return to club action this past week after the international break. That was without Christian Pulisic, who was a late scratch due to a muscle injury. Alfredo Morales scored in Mexico, and DeAndre Yedlin, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Omar Gonzalez all picked up assists. We also had some notable debuts as well.

Let’s get to it:

Alfredo Morales
The Ingolstadt midfielder scored the winner over Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2.Bundesliga. He went the full 90, picking up a yellow card in the 3rd minute.

DeAndre Yedlin
The Newcastle right back got his first assist on the season in a 4-1 loss to Manchester United. The day started off great for Yedlin as he was able to get to the end line and cross it to open the scoring in the 13th minute, but The Magpies would eventually fall apart. Yedlin is still consistently one of the better players on the field for his team, and this game was no different. It looked like most of the damage was done to NUFC on the other side of the field. He was beaten for a header on one goal but overall played a decent match against a giant opponent.

Weston McKennie
McKennie played all 90 minutes of a 2-0 Schalke 04 win over Hamburger SV. It was another solid performance for the teenager as he establishes himself. You can see his confidence is growing.

Cameron Carter-Vickers
The 19-year-old Tottenham loanee earned a really nice assist for Sheffield United in a 3-1 win over the weekend. The young man is playing with confidence after debuting for the USMNT last week against Portugal.

John Brooks
Brooks had a really good showing for Wolfsburg in a 3-1 win over Freiburg. He is passing the ball really well (52/57 passes completed), making big tackles, and anchoring the backline for Wolfsburg since making his return from injury.

Fabian Johnson
Johnson turned logged 74 minutes for Borussia Mönchengladbach in a 4-2 win over Hertha Berlin. ‘Gladbach has moved into 4th place, ahead of Pulisic’s Borussia Dortmund.

Bobby Wood
Wood came off the bench for the last 21 minutes vs Schalke on Sunday, but failed to make an impact. After seemingly losing his starting position up top, Bobby is going to have to make the best of appearances as a sub on a bad team. He probably needs a change...

Danny Williams
Along with the rest of his Huddersfield Town side, Williams had a very rough day with a 4-0 drubbing from Bournemouth. He was a substituted out at halftime after failing to have any sort of impact on the match. Danny is a regular contributor and has been playing decent on the season. It was just a bad day all around for The Terriers.

Shaq Moore
The 21-year-old made his first La Liga start over the weekend for Levante as he played every minute of a 2-0 win over Las Palmas. After making his first debut in a cup match recently and then appearing in a league match against Eibar, he’s now a first division player and looking to cement his role at right back.

Jonathan Gonzalez
The 18-year-old Monterrey man went all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Tigres. The match wrapped up the Apertura 2017 regular season and Monterrey finished on top of Liga MX, 5 points clear of Tigres.

Matt Miazga
Miazga and Vitesse got thrashed at Groningen in a 4-2 loss.

Omar Gonzalez
Gonzalez picked up an assist in a 1-1 draw with Atlas. His Pachuca side finished the Liga MX Apertura 2017 season in 12th place.

Keaton Parks
Made his first team debut for Benfica in Portugal. The 20-year-old even helped create the 2nd goal of the 2-0 win over Vitoria de Setubal in the Cup match. HIGHLIGHTS
