Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund are on to the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal after eliminating John Brooks and Hertha Berlin on penalties in a wild match.

Brooks got the start and went the full 120 minutes for Hertha, while Pulisic started on the bench. However, it didn’t take long for him to make an impact after being substituted on a halftime with Dortmund trailing 1-0. His smart pass to Marco Reus helped set up the match-tying goal. It wasn’t the most flashy assist you’ll ever see, but it was useful. Watch it here:

John Brooks was no slouch in the match either. Several times he came up huge for Berlin as they had to implement back to the wall (pun intended) defending techniques several times to push the match to extra time.

After an uneventful extra time, the match headed to penalties. After Dortmund took the lead after the first round and Berlin missed again in the second, Pulisic had a chance to put them up 2-0 after two rounds. Unfortunately his attempt was well saved by the Hertha keeper. Dortmund would make the rest of their attempts and would be sent into the next round after a miss by Salomon Kalou.
