Explosion injures Borussia Dortmund player, postpones Champions League match

Terrible news in Germany.

An explosion around the Borussia Dortmund team bus has injured one player and has caused their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first leg with AS Monaco to be delayed. The club’s official Twitter account confirmed that their bus was “attacked” and that one player had suffered an injury.

BVB defender Lukasz Piszczek has tweeted that Marc Bartra is the player and that was injured has been taken to the hospital with a cut to his hand.

The day promised to be an exciting one with Christian Pulisic possibly getting a start in a very high profile match such as a Champions League final eight match-up, however lineups were never officially released due to the incident. The match is currently being delayed and looks closer to cancellation than beginning with the stands almost completely empty.

Details on how the explosion happened and the events surrounding it are sketchy. Thankfully it doesn’t sound like injuries extend beyond the one, but it’s a very scary situation nevertheless.

UPDATE: The match has been postponed until tomorrow.
