You’re probably tired of hearing about him, but Christian Pulisic had another key role to play in a big game for Borussia Dortmund and helped them secure a piece of hardware along the way. Despite not getting the start, the American teenager came on at the half for the injured Marco Reus.
Pulisic’s big moment came in the 66th minute with the score even 1-1. He was played through on goal and with no other recourse, Eintracht Frankfurt keeper Lukas Hradecky clearly tripped him. The penalty call was never in doubt and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped back, evaluated his options against the big Finnish goalkeeper, charged forward, and sent a Paneka to the back of the net.
With the final score 2-1, Dortmund won the DFB Pokal Final for their first trophy since 2012. They lost the past three finals and concludes a club season where Pulisic established himself as a crucial member of the squad. Though he didn’t come away with the trophy, American defender Timothy Chandler also featured in the game and acquitted himself quite well in the loss.
