Welcome to a new weekly idea we’re calling “Stars and Stripes FC Match of the Weekend.” The idea here is to highlight the most important club match of the weekend that pertains to the USMNT or USWNT. This will take the place of our open thread/TV guide idea we tried last season, but we hope it serves the same purpose. We kick things off with a bang in the form of the DfL Supercup between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. A little Der Klassiker action for a trophy? Don’t mind if I do.

The Bundesliga has become the go-to league for Americans these days. Christian Pulisic has become must-see TV on a weekly basis, while Fabian Johnson continues to play a huge role for his club. John Brooks and Timmy Chandler and on and on. With Weston McKennie looking to be the next big thing for USMNT followers to obsess over in Germany, the Bundesliga is the new “it” league to follow. Before the season officially kicks off, we get an old fashioned rivalry match in Germany’s equivalent to the Community Shield.

Both Dortmund and Bayern have won this title five times, the winner of today’s match will take the lead in the all-time race. There’s more than a good chance that our favorite American prodigy will feature and most likely get the start as both Marco Reus and Andre Schurrle are unavailable due to injury. This is shaping up to be a very important season for young Pulisic as he should be a feature player for new manager, Peter Bosz.

What a way to kick off what should be a fascinating Bundesliga season for us American viewers. Here’s how you can watch it:
