U.S. youth international defender Chris Gloster signs for Hannover

He becomes the third young American to sign with a Bundesliga squad in 2018

The wave of young Americans moving to Germany continues with current Red Bulls Academy player Chris Gloster signing with Hannover. Gloster will make the move official on his 18th birthday at the end of July per FIFA regulations.

It was reported by ESPN that Gloster was previously on trial with fellow Bundesliga side Schalke, but was not offered a contract. However, he also trialled with Hannover where he impressed.

“We expect a lot from him, also with a view to the senior team,” said Michael Tarnat, the head of Hannover’s academy, told the club’s website. “He made a good impression during his two-week trial here.”

Gloster was the primary left back for the U-17s throughout their CONCACAF qualifiers and for the U-17 World Cup this past summer in India.

Hannover is the side former United States stalwart Steve Cherundulo captained and spent his entire club career. Gloster is aiming to be the next American to break through.

Gloster becomes the third young American to sign with a Bundesliga side since the start of 2018 joining Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen) and Zyen Jones (Schalke 04).
