Alfredo Morales has gotten off to a pretty good start to the season. Following up last week’s 3-1 win over Josh Sargent and Werder Bremen, Morales started as usual in their matchup against Bayer Leverkusen, scoring a goal in the process.
Leverkusen dominated the match, but in the 82nd minute, the 29-year-old made a play to inject some life into his club. He did well to win the ball at midfield, and then found himself in the right place at the right time to finish off the deflected cross and get Düsseldorf on the board.

It wasn’t nearly enough in the end, as Düsseldorf fell 3-1. Still, it’s good to see Morales continue to feature in a top league, a feat that’s all too rare among American players these days. This was Morales’ fourth career Bundesliga goal and the first goal that any American has scored in a top 5 league this season. Let’s hope it’s the first of many.
