Sergiño Dest will remain at the Johan Cruyff for a few more years. The 18-year-old United States international signed a contract extension that will keep him with AFC Ajax through 2022.

Dest has emerged over the past few years with Jong Ajax, joining the Ajax first team before this season. His performances were strong enough to have him officially named to the first team on a permanent basis yesterday. Ajax’s commitment to Dest is a sign that the American has been impressing everyone during his meteoric rise to a team that was just a few minutes short of making the Champions League final last season.

Dest’s rise has also been monitored by U.S. Soccer. He has come up in the U.S. Soccer youth system, appearing on the U-17 and U-20 teams. He was a star for the U.S. U-20s during this year’s U-20 World Cup, and that coupled with his first team appearances for Ajax earned him his debut caps for the USMNT. He started matches this month against Mexico and Uruguay, and fans hope he will be in the lineup for the USMNT when they begin CONCACAF Nations League play next month against Cuba and Canada.
